CONTEMPORARY ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS
My series of contemporary illuminated manuscripts are my most recent paintings. They are inspired by the sacred geometry of European illuminated manuscripts and Persian miniatures. I think of these pictures as modern re-makes of an ancient tradition. In some of these paintings, I have taken the text from pages of 19th century grammar books.
In Remember Me I wrote the names and ages of some of the children killed in school violence in our country in the past half century. Rocking the Elms includes a letter from Lord Alfred Tennyson to Walt Whitman.
All the writing is hand done - nothing is collaged.
